Creative Quilting Dressmaking Course 22 September – 3 November
Week 1 – Simple A line or Straight skirt – 22 September
Using New Look 6053 (sizes 8-18) you will cut out the pattern, tissue fit to check size, learn what pattern markings are for and how to layout on fabric correctly. You will then cut out and make up your own skirt, including inserting a zip in the side seam, making darts and adding a facing to the waist before top stitching or blind hemming.
Measurements needed: Waist and hip (taken 7-9” below waist).
Week 2 & 3– Shift Dress – 13th October and 20th October
Using New Look 6095, (sizes 10-22) make a simple shift dress with front and back double darts for shaping, a centre back zip and faced neck and cap sleeves. You will learn to stay stitch, create perfect double darts, how to insert an invisible zip, add neck facings and understitch for a perfect finish.
Also included in the pattern is a great bag – tips will be given to make this later at home.
Requirements for dress
Measurements needed: Bust – or High Bust (if over C cup –take bust measurements around the back and under arms but above the bust). Waist & Hip
Make a pair of 1960s retro trousers in cool cottons using New Look 6217 (sizes 10-22). This pair of straight legged trousers has side zip and faced waist. You will learn how to tissue fit, cut out and make a pair, inserting an invisible zip and top stitching.
Measurements needed: Waist and Hip (hip measurement around widest part of posterior, usually about 7-9” below waist)
