Dressmaking Course for Beginners
Learn to sew a simple summer shift with Maggie at Creative Quilting, Bridge Road,
East Molesey on 2nd June (10-1) and 16th and 30th June both 10-4.
New Look – NL6176 (one size pattern 8-18)
Misses above the knee shift dress with back zipper,
banded neckline, and 4 sleeve variations, optional pocket and hem band.
You will learn how to cut out the pattern, with readjustment for perfect fit, make perfect darts for shaping at the bust area and back through the waist, insert a zip, add facings and understitch for a neat finish.
Dress A (long sleeve) 1.80-1.90 metres of 115 cm (45”) wide fabric + 0.60 metre of contrast
Dress B (short sleeve) 2.10 metres of 115 cm (45”) wide fabric + 0.50 metre of contrast
Dress C (short sleeve) 2.10 metres of 115 cm (45”) wide fabric
Dress D (sleeveless) 2.10 metres of 11 cm (45”) wide fabric
NB: NO obvious diagonals/stripes or fabric that needs to be patterned matched
Notions: 0.30 metres lightweight fusible interfacing
1 x 50 cm (20”) zipper – colour matched to fabric
1 pack 6mm elastic (for Dress A)
2 x 2.8 cm buttons (for Dress c)
Matching thread – good quality polyester or cotton
Scissors – dressmaking scissors preferred but not essential
Sewing machine: If you are bringing your own sewing machine please REMEMBER to include all the accessories, all machine feet, spare bobbin, power lead, foot pedal and instruction book (if you still have it!)
Alternatively you can hire a Janome DXL 603 from Creative – hire charge
