Free Motion Quilting with Paula Doyle

Machine Quilting 1 class requirements-Paula Doyle

Are you scared of Machine Quilting? Then come along and face your fear by making a panel for a machine quilted cushion. In the morning you'll learn how and when to use your walking foot, and in the afternoon we will progress to some free-motion quilting.

Class requirements for Beginning Machine Quilting Class:

Paula will be bringing pre-marked calico for you to pratise your quilting on (this is included in the cost of the class)

You will need to bring the following:

2 strips of fabric rotary cut 2 1/2'' x 44'' ( width of fabric) for binding your cushion

2 rectangles 26'' x 22'' for cushion back

PLEASE NOTE: these items will NOT be needed in class, but will be needed if you wish to turn your quilted square into a cushion when you get home from class.

WADDING:

1 square low-loft wadding at least 22'' x 22''

2 rectangles low loft wadding 13'' x 22'' each for cushion back µ

SEWING MACHINE with drop-able feed dogs, plus a WALKING FOOT AND a FREE MOTION QUILTING FOOT ( please note: you may have to purchase these feet, as they do not come as standard feet for many machines. Please note that for some machines there is a separate free motion foot for embroidery, and a different free motion foot for QUILTING - this is especially true for Pfaff machines, so please ask if you're not sure! )

PLEASE REMEMBER TO BRING ALONG YOUR SEWING MACHINE MANUAL TO CLASS.

THREAD: 100% cotton sewing machine thread in the same or slightly darker colour than fabric

any other colours of 40 or 50 weight machine quilting threads you may wish to try

NEEDLES: Microtex or Quilting needles size 70 or 80 for your machine

OPTIONAL: Grip gloves or non-slip finger balm

SEWING KIT: kit to include:

sharp pointed scissors, hand sewing needles, needle threader, sewing machine manual

Please note our members of staff are no longer allowed to carry heavy bags or sewing machines upstairs to the classroom. We kindly ask you to take your own equipment upstairs, so please make sure that you only bring items that you can carry to our 1st floor room. We do thank you in advance for your understanding and cooperation.

See you in class! Paula
