REQUIREMENTS FOR ONE BLOCK
This design works best using at least 7 different fabrics for
the background block, but you can get away with five or six
as there is a lot of appliqué on top of the basic block design..
Wadding, thin, 19" x 19". Backing fabric for block, same size.
Pieced Front: 7 Fat Quarters ( will make more than one block) or if from your stash:
1 x 5" x 10.5", 6 x 13" x13" or equivalent. Use woven brushed cottons, Homespun,
woven ﬂannels, or thin wool tweeds.
Felts: Leaves 1 fat quarter or equivalent in various shades. Berries 3 shades of red work best, or single piece 2" x 8".
Fusible webbing (such as Heat and Bond)- only required if using brushed cotton or wool for appliqué, not felt: 25cm
Threads: Neutral machine thread for piecing.
For embroidery and appliqué: suggested suitable threads:perle 12, embroidery ﬂoss ( use two strands), crochet cotton 10 or smaller, lining threads- again fine.
For hand quilting: single strand ﬂoss,Aurifil Laine,hand quilting threads or any fine
embroidery or perle thread.
Sewing machine, cutting mat, rules and cutter, paper scissors, hand stitching needles for embroidery ( small chenilles are good) and quilting, small scissors for threads, appliqué
