Half Square Triangles – HST

 

Quilt – 12x12 units    48” square

 

In this class you will be taught to make accurate HST – a simple technique – using 5” squares.

You will then be able to choose which pattern you prefer for your quilt – eg pinwheels, chevron,

herringbone ……

 

Please bring to the class:=

 

FABRICS:-

6 fat quarters that you like together – feature fabrics

1 ½ metres of background – plain,mottled, tone on tone or a different colour – to go with your fat quarters

 

Please note – you can use as many fabrics as you wish – good for stashbusting.

The background can also be a mix of the same colour eg creams or greens.

We need to be able to cut 5” squares – 72  feature fabrics

If you want to make a larger quilt, please bring more fabric.

 

Borders can be added later.

 

THREAD:-

Light/med/dark grey –according to your fabrics – for piecing

 

EQUIPMENT:-

Sewing machine in good working order – with all leads, attachments and MANUAL.

Rotary cutting – mat, ruler and sharp cutter

6 ½” square – very useful.

Propelling pencil – fine

Fabric marking pen – eg Sewline

Sewing kit – pins, scissors etc

Squared paper/drawing paper

Notebook and pen

 

 

 

I will show you different ways to use your HST – the effect of colour, patterns and changing size.

Also there are other ways to make them – we can look at these.
