These classes have no fixed agenda; you can come along and work on whatever project you like (play catch-up from another one or start something new). Some food for thought can be found on the picture page and listed in the Our Lady of Lourdes section – such as Log Cabin, or a quick quilt made with pre-cut 2 ½” strips or squares which are available to purchase in the shop.

Hampton Court Way, Surrey KT7 0LP

Open Patchwork dates with Val – level: anyone

No fixed agenda on these dates and we have a little more room (usually) than at the shop to work on slightly larger projects – layer up your quilt, do the quilting etc. Bring your own project along to work on or start something new with Val – some ideas are listed below. If you find something in a magazine that you would like to work on, please discuss with Val before the class.

Saturday, 10am til 5pm

25th March

29th April

£49.00 per session, the class fee includes vegetarian lunch and light refreshments during the day. Please advise us/remind us of any special dietary needs.

Food for thought /ideas for class:

Log Cabin/Trip Around the World/Irish Chain- all part of the Quilt in a Day series which are really great. For anyone starting out in patchwork they should be tackled in that order (degree of difficulty) but all three are really great for introducing you to fast piecing, and rotary cutting – and we aim to get the top finished at the class!

Simple squares work well!

Jelly Jazz – uses 2 ½” strips/jelly roll (but you will need to buy a pattern for this which Val will have!)

Shoo Fly/Monkey Wrench from Pre-cuts – layer cakes and charm packs – great for beginners.

9 block  sampler – uses  2 ½” strips of fabric to great effect (and Thangles for your triangles)

Take 9 – 9 fabrics that is! and produce a very quick quilt

Sampler – a quilt designed to be made by beginners with several fast piecing techniques covered in the construction.

1930’s scrap quilt (but can be made in any fabrics and you can take advantage of the pre-cut 5” squares and 2 ½” strip rolls)

Modern quilts – simple and easy to make using stunning fabric and straightforward sewing.

Quilt in a Day – Log Cabin with Val – Level A (perfect for absolute beginners!) or Open Format if you prefer to work on your own project

We are going back to basics!! We haven’t had a Log Cabin class in a very long time and it is such a great, traditional pattern that we decided to bring it back! Yes, you really can make a quilt top in a day! Great fun; Learn to rotary cut and fast piece this traditional pattern – it can be given a modern twist just by your choice of fabrics. It is strip roll friendly as well, so that Jelly Roll you bought at a show and not sure how to use will just be perfect for it!! Use up your stash and get to use a quilt!!  Great for beginners and those who just want to sew and destash!!

Sat 18th Feb 10am til 5pm, at All Saints church hall, Esher, Chestnut Avenue KT10 8JL. Tea/coffee/biscuits will be available. Please bring your own lunch or enjoy a pub lunch 2 minutes away. Plenty of free parking available. £46.00. Please note finishing time is 5pm.

Bargello Quilt with Sue Thornborough – Level B (must be able to rotary cut)

Heads up all you Bargello ladies who enjoyed making the Christmas tree skirt.  Here is another Bargello class - a straight Bargello made in any size you choose.  Try a cot quilt in pretty pink and green florals, a throw for the lounge in elegant teals and greys, or a single or double bed quilt in hot orange reds and charcoal or in peaceful pastels.  The pattern can all flow in the same direction or be made to change direction.  The choice is yours.

This class is for anyone who has mastered the skills of rotary cutting and sewing a 1/4" seam.  The joy of Bargello is in the flow of the fabric colours one to the next, and in the speed with which the quilt top comes together.  The technique is the same whatever the quilt size, for larger quilts you just use more fabrics and make more columns.

Sat 1st April – 10am til 4pm, at All Saints church hall, Esher, Chestnut Avenue KT10 8JL. Tea/coffee/biscuits will be available. Please bring your own lunch or enjoy a pub lunch 2 minutes away. Plenty of free parking available. £45.00.
