CANCELLED An Evening with... Angela Madden

April 19th annoucement: we are really sorry but the venue we were going to use is a polling station and will therefore be used that day for the general election. We will be refunding everybody and hopefully reschedule soon!!

We are delighted to welcome renowned quilter and author, Angela Madden, for a fun evening. I first saw Angela's lecture in November 2016 at a meeting of the Hexagon Quilters. I thought it was informative as well as fun. She is a great speaker and her enormous collection of quilts is fascinating. Although Angela is world renowned for her Celtic quilts, she has got a lot more strings to her bow.

Open Patchwork dates with Val – level: anyone

No fixed agenda on these dates and we have a little more room (usually) than at the shop to work on slightly larger projects – layer up your quilt, do the quilting etc. Bring your own project along to work on or start something new with Val – some ideas are listed below. If you find something in a magazine that you would like to work on, please discuss with Val before the class.

Food for thought /ideas for class:

Log Cabin/Trip Around the World/Irish Chain- all part of the Quilt in a Day series which are really great. For anyone starting out in patchwork they should be tackled in that order (degree of difficulty) but all three are really great for introducing you to fast piecing, and rotary cutting – and we aim to get the top finished at the class!

Simple squares work well!

Jelly Jazz – uses 2 ½” strips/jelly roll (but you will need to buy a pattern for this which Val will have!)

Shoo Fly/Monkey Wrench from Pre-cuts – layer cakes and charm packs – great for beginners.

9 block  sampler – uses  2 ½” strips of fabric to great effect (and Thangles for your triangles)

Take 9 – 9 fabrics that is! and produce a very quick quilt

Sampler – a quilt designed to be made by beginners with several fast piecing techniques covered in the construction.

1930’s scrap quilt (but can be made in any fabrics and you can take advantage of the pre-cut 5” squares and 2 ½” strip rolls)

Modern quilts – simple and easy to make using stunning fabric and straightforward sewing.

Philippa Naylor – 2 day workshop – New quilt with piecing and Applique (more info to follow)

Friday 6th October (1.30pm access to the hall, 1.45pm start of class til 7.30pm) and Saturday 7th October (10am til 4pm), venue: Our Lady of Lourdes, , £150.00 for the two-day session (includes refreshments and afternoon tea on Friday and refreshments and lunch on Saturday)
