Free Motion Quilting Class

Too many quilt tops waiting in the “to be quilted” pile? Not sure where to begin? Come along to the Free Motion Quilting class to get to grips with how to use your sewing machine to do beautiful quilting ! In just one day you will learn all of the basics of FMQ while making a lovely calico cushion cover. Lots of tips, techniques, and tools for stress free quilting are provided during the workshop.

Please make sure you bring the following items with you on the day (they are not included in the kit)

Sewing machine equipped with free-motion quilting foot

50 weight cotton thread in the same or slightly darker colour than unbleached calico

Water soluble OR erasable marking pen or pencil

Microtex 70 OR Quilting needles size 80 for your machine

Sewing kit to include: scissors, hand sewing needles and needle threader

Optional: Grip gloves or non-slip finger balm, plus Supreme Slider

 

1 class kit (available for £12) OR make your own kit (see instructions) using:

FABRIC: 1.15 metres of 45’’ wide calico (American Muslin) or plain (no print), light coloured cotton fabric cut into two 20’’ x 20’’ squares and two 20’’ x 22’’ rectangles.

WADDING: one 20’’ x 20’’ square and two 20’’ x 11’’ rectangles.

505 basting spray or basting safety pins.

 

Your prepared class kit will include the quilt sandwiches needed to make the front and back panels for a 18’’ x 18’’ cushion. If preparing your own kit for class please contact us so that we can send you the detailed instructions of what to prepare for the class. Your cushion kit must be prepared prior to coming to class.
