Skill Levels explained

Categories: A = anyone and includes patchwork virgins

                                    V =  someone with no patchwork experience

                        B = someone with some patchwork knowledge, including rotary cutting skills and ¼” seam allowance mastered

                        ADV B = someone with good patchwork skills

 

Reminder: - The class fee is due at the time of booking

Sewing Machines are available to hire

 

Patchwork/Needlework does require time and patience. It is unlikely you will always finish the project during the class and you will be given all the necessary instructions to complete it at home (Open Format and Follow on classes are also available).

We will assume that you have read and approved our T&C when booking you a class.

Terms and Conditions

 

If you would like to book a place on a class…

1)           Contact the shop (phone 0208 941 7075)

2)           We can not guarantee your space unless you pay for your place – bookings receive without payment will be put on waiting list and transferred to actual list once paid for.

3)           Should you wish to cancel and providing you give us a 7 day notice before the class, we will issue a CREDIT NOTE. It can be used against goods or class – no time limit on it.

However, if you do not give us a 7 day notice, we will NOT BE ABLE to offer a credit note as we would have confirmed the tutor and committed to pay her fee. We will be happy for you to find someone to take your place but we cannot take responsibility to find someone for you. We will of course consider any medical emergencies and serious family situations.

4)           Should WE cancel a class, a cash refund will be given

We will assume T&C have been read and agreed when you book on a class.

 

We have 6 Janome machines (DXL 603) for students to hire during classes.

The rental fee is only £4.00 per machine (for ½ or full day).

The machines are available on a first come, first serve basis.

 

 

Sewing machine and equipment

We kindly ask you to take your own equipment upstairs, so please make sure that you only bring items that you can carry to our 1st floor room.

If your sewing machine is too heavy for you to take upstairs, we strongly recommend hiring one of ours. The cost of this for the day is £4.00.

Val will be on hand to help you with all your patchwork and quilting questions. Whether it’s about an unfamiliar gadget, challenging fabrics, threads and needles questions, unused stash, bring it along and discuss with Val. No need to book, just turn up. Free to attend. First come, first serve

English Paper Piecing for Beginners/Improvers with Valerie – Level A

Whether you are familiar with EPP or an absolute beginner, this class is the perfect environment to carry on an existing project or start a new one under Valerie’s guidance. She can suggest design options and will give you lots of technical hints and tips.

Star Collector with Sue Thornborough  - Level Beginner competent with sewing machine

Stars are a perennially popular patchwork pattern.  In this workshop you will cover 3 different star blocks, a 6-point, an 8-point and a 12-point, and the best techniques to make them.  Sue will also help you plan and design a star quilt and work out yardages.

Scrap Quilt Workshop with Emma Randall

Not sure what to do with all your leftovers/scraps?

Bring them along to class and get inspired to start a scrap quilt. We will be focussing on patterns from squares and strips so it would be helpful and you will get further on the day if you can cut your scraps into squares – any size from 2½ in to 5in or strips  2½in by 4½in.

Beginner/Follow On Classes with Emma Randall

New to patchwork? Always wondered where to start? Not done any sewing for a while?

Come along and learn or recap the basics including choosing material, rotary cutting, strip piecing and lots more. You can make your blocks into a quilt, table runner or cushion. You probably won’t finish it on the day but you will have the instructions to continue at home or why not book a follow on class to continue/finish it?

If you are a beginner you will need 1/2m of main fabric and 2 fat quarters of contrasting fabrics to start with. If you have your own rotary cutter, ruler and cutting mat do bring them with you plus a general sewing kit including pins, scissors, needles etc.

This is a great beginner’s project.  A beautiful and useful bag, with applique decoration and an internal pocket.  The picture is only an example.  Select any fabric that appeals and there will be a choice of different applique patterns.

Thangles with Nicola Whayman

Thangles are an easy way to make half square triangles. Come along to this class and learn how to use thangles to make 8 different blocks which are made of half square triangles. The blocks can then be used to make a lovely simple modern quilt, table runner or cushions.

Drunkard’s Path with Sue Thornborough

Drunkard’s Path with Sue Thornborough

Don’t be afraid of curved seams.  This delightful drunkard’s path block can be made into a cushion, a lap quilt or a full size quilt, depending on how many you want to make.  The technique is simple and uses a lot of your scraps.  Come and make a delightful flock of birds.

Easy Stack with Paula Doyle

Paula Doyle is teaching her Easy Stack Quilt from her book, which is available in the shop, on Saturday 14th September at OLL 10am till 4pm £45.00 for the day including lunch.

Call the shop to book on now before spaces go. 

This is one of her Easy Stack Quilts and there are other designs.

Wed Evenings with Val 6-9pm - Open to all levels

Do you want some “me-sewing-time”? Want to finish a project and never find the time to do it at home? Can’t commit to an all-day class? Then these evening sessions are perfect for you!  

Val will be on hand to guide you through your project and the shop remains open during that time!

Open to all – especially patchwork virgins

Val has been teaching patchwork for many years and what she doesn’t know about that subject isn’t worth knowing! She will be on hand to guide through your own project or help you choose your new one!

Please let us know what you will be working on at the time of booking. All levels welcome, relaxed and friendly atmosphere!

Sewing machines are available to rent for £4.00 per class; (they are Janome DXL603). Cutting mat, rulers and cutters can be borrowed on a first come, first served basis.

Same concept as the Wednesday Open Format at the shop this Val, with more room to spread and lunch and refreshments taken care of for you! Free parking and no steps.

If you find something in a magazine that you would like to work on, please discuss with Val before the class.
