Skill Levels explained

Categories:

V =  someone with no patchwork experience

A = anyone and includes patchwork virgins

B = someone with some patchwork knowledge, including rotary cutting skills and ¼” seam allowance mastered

C = someone with good patchwork skills

 

Reminder: - The class fee is due at the time of booking

Sewing Machines are available to hire

 

Patchwork/Needlework does require time and patience. It is unlikely you will always finish the project during the class and you will be given all the necessary instructions to complete it at home (Open Format and Follow on classes are also available)

We will assume that you have read and approved our T&C when booking you a class.

Terms and Conditions

 

If you would like to book a place on a class…

1)           Contact the shop (phone 0208 941 7075)

2)           We can not guarantee your space unless you pay for your place – bookings receive without payment will be put on waiting list and transferred to actual list once paid for.

3)           Should you wish to cancel and providing you give us a 7 day notice before the class, we will issue a CREDIT NOTE. It can be used against goods or class – no time limit on it. However, if you do not give us a 7 day notice, we will NOT BE ABLE to offer a credit note as we would have confirmed the tutor and committed to pay their fee. We will be happy for you to find someone to take your place but we cannot take responsibility to find someone for you.

4)           Should WE cancel a class, a cash refund will be given

We will assume T&C have been read and agreed when you book on a class.

Sewing machines and equipment

We kindly ask you to take your own equipment upstairs, so please make sure that you only bring items that you can carry to our 1st floor room. If your sewing machine is too heavy for you to take upstairs, we strongly recommend hiring one of ours which costs just £4.00 per session.

New to patchwork? Come along and learn the basics including rotary cutting, strip piecing and lots more. You can make your blocks into a quilt, table runner or cushion. You won’t finish it on the day but you will have the instructions to continue at home and you can book onto another class to carry on working on your project.

Already started a project and just need a bit of help? Bring your current project along or start a new project.

Thangles with Nicola Whayman

Wednesday 28th August 10.30am to 16.30pm

Thangles are an easy way to make half square triangles. Come along and learn how to use them to make different blocks. The blocks can then be used to make many projects including table runners, quilts and cushions.

Easy Stack with Paula Doyle

Saturday 14th September 10.00am to 16.00pm     £46.00

We are delighted that Paula Doyle is teaching her Easy Stack Quilt from her book (which is available in the shop). Some of the staff have already tried this technique and it is great fun and produces some amazing blocks! These are two of her Easy Stack Quilts and there are plenty of other designs you can make once you have made the basic blocks. You will need to bring 2.5m of fabric with you, the pattern repeat should be 8", 12" or 24". 

The class fee includes vegetarian lunch and light refreshments during the day. Please advise us/remind us of any special dietary needs.

English Paper Piecing with Valerie Quilter

Whether you are familiar with EPP or an absolute beginner, this class is the perfect environment to carry on an existing project or start a new one under Valerie’s guidance. She can suggest design options and will give you lots of technical hints and tips.

Mat Bag with Emma Randall

Saturday 5th October 10.30am to 16.30pm £44.00

Fed up with juggling carrying your cutting mat and ruler? Come along and make a bag that will accommodate your cutting mat and rulers (up to 24 ½ inches long) making it so much easier to bring to class or when getting together to sew with friends.

From Hadryon Collider to Confetti Landscapes – My Life in Patchwork

Come along to hear Kate talk about her life in quilting and see samples of the different stages of making Confetti Landscape Quilts.

Cathedral Windows with Sue Thornborough

Friday 11th October 10.30am to 16.30pm    £44.00

Cathedral Windows is a traditional technique that can be made either by hand or machine. Sue will show you both methods and you will be able to decide which one you prefer. The traditional look of this technique can be altered by your use of fabrics; it looks stunning in batiks, you can ‘fussy cut’ the windows, alternate the background colours - there are many choices!

For children aged 10 years and older: Come and learn some basic sewing skills and have fun with a Christmas themed day. The materials are included in the cost so just bring scissors and pins if you have them.

Wonky Wonderings with Pauline Buchanan

Tuesday 29th October 2019             10.30am to 4.30pm                     £44.00

This class will teach you two techniques for curved strip piecing using no rulers, machine quilting using a walking foot that looks like free motion quilting and how to make your own bias binding finish. We will be using these techniques to make a Christmas table runner.

Stain Glass Designs with Sue Thornborough

Friday 1st November 10.30am to 16.30pm  £44.00

Stained Glass Window patchwork looks stunning and is a fairly simple applique technique. It lends itself particularly to the sweeping curves of Art Nouveau. Mackintosh’s Glasgow rose is the inspiration for this block which can be made into a wall hanging or a cushion.  Or you could incorporate it into a quilt of similar designs.

Advent Calendars with Emma Randall

Saturday 9th November 10.30am to 16.30pm         £44.00

Quick and easy Advent Calendars! Pick a panel from the shop or bring along one from your stash and make an Advent Calendar in a day. Or if you are crazy (like Emma!) just bring along some Christmas fabric with motifs that are about 3” square and Emma will guide you through how to turn them into your own unique advent calendar design.

Open Format with Sue Thornborough

Want to finish all those UFO’s? Bring along a project you have started with Sue to finish off or come along and get help starting a new one. Or if you missed a class that you wanted to do just let us know when you book and Sue will be able to get you started on it.

Do you want some “me-sewing-time”? Want to finish a project and never find the time to do it at home? Can’t commit to an all-day class? Then these evening sessions are perfect for you! Val will be on hand to guide you through your project and the shop remains open during that time!

If your sewing machine is too heavy for you to take upstairs, we strongly recommend hiring one of ours. The cost of this for the evening is £4.00.

Sewing machines are available to rent for £4.00 per class (they are Janome DXL603).

Cutting mat, rulers and cutters can be borrowed on a first come, first served basis.
