Skill Levels explained

Categories:

A = anyone and includes patchwork virgins

B = someone with some patchwork knowledge, including rotary cutting skills and ¼” seam allowance mastered

C = someone with good patchwork skills

 

Patchwork/Needlework does require time and patience. It is unlikely you will always finish the project during the class and you will be given all the necessary instructions to complete it at home (Open Format and Follow on classes are also available).

Terms and Conditions

 

If you would like to book a place on a class…

1)           Contact the shop (phone 0208 941 7075)

2)           We can not guarantee your space unless you pay for your place – bookings receive without payment will be put on waiting list and transferred to actual list once paid for.

3)           Should you wish to cancel and providing you give us a 7 day notice before the class, we will issue a CREDIT NOTE. It can be used against goods or class – no time limit on it. However, if you do not give us a 7 day notice, we will NOT BE ABLE to offer a credit note as we would have confirmed the tutor and committed to pay their fee. We will be happy for you to find someone to take your place but we cannot take responsibility to find someone for you.

4)           Should WE cancel a class, a cash refund will be given

We will assume T&C have been read and agreed when you book on a class.

Sewing machines and equipment

We kindly ask you to take your own equipment upstairs, so please make sure that you only bring items that you can carry to our 1st floor room. If your sewing machine is too heavy for you to take upstairs, we strongly recommend hiring one of ours (Janome DXL603) which costs just £4.00 per session.

We do thank you in advance for your understanding and cooperation.

  Cutting mat, rulers and cutters can be borrowed on a first come, first served basis.

Cathedral Windows with Sue Thornborough

Cathedral Windows with Sue Thornborough – Level A  £44.00

Friday 10th January 10.30am to 16.30pm

This is a traditional technique that can be made either by hand or machine. Sue will show you both methods so you will be able to decide which one you prefer. The traditional look of this technique can be altered by your use of fabrics, you can ‘fussy cut’ the windows, alternate the background colours - there are many choices!

Wine Carrier with Nicola Whayman

Wednesday 13th November 10.30am to 16.30pm                       £44.00

An excellent Christmas Gift idea, come along and make a wine carrier to give to a friend! In addition to the kit (available in the shop) you just need 2 fat quarters and some embroidery threads.

Whether you are familiar with EPP or an absolute beginner, this class is the perfect environment to carry on an existing project or start a new one under Valerie’s guidance. She can suggest design options and will give you lots of technical hints and tips. 

Christmas Themed Children's Classes with Emma Randall

Saturday 23rd November 10.30am to 13.30pm

£25.00 per session

For children aged 10 years and older: Come and learn some basic sewing skills and have fun with a Christmas themed day. The materials are included in the cost so just bring scissors and pins if you have them.

Open Format with Sue Thornborough

Friday 29th November 10.30am to 16.30pm                       £44.00

Want to finish all those UFOs? Bring along a project you have started with Sue to finish off, or come along and get help starting a new one. Or if you missed a class that you wanted to do, just let us know when you book and Sue will be able to get you started on it.

Christmas Table Runner with Emma Randall

Have you got all your Christmas planning sorted? Or feel that nothing is sorted yet?! Either way, take time out from the busyness and come along for a relaxing day making a simple but stunning table runner for your table or for that last minute gift.

Thangles with Nicola Whayman

Thangles are an easy way to make half square triangles. Come along and learn how to use them to make different blocks. The blocks can then be used to make many projects including table runners, quilts and cushions.

Foundation Pieced Design with Cathy Bonner

Tuesday 10th March 10.30am to 1.30pm £22.00

Many of you may be put off by the labour-intensive cutting and fitting process that makes some complicated looking quilt blocks. Foundation piecing takes all the hassle out of cutting and sewing your quilt block. You can even use oddly shaped pieces of fabric scraps without extra cutting.

Wonky Wonderings with Pauline Buchanan

Tuesday 25th February 10.30am to 4.30pm £44.00

In this class you will learn two techniques for curved strip piecing using no rulers, machine quilting using a walking foot that looks like free motion quilting and how to make your own bias binding finish

Stain Glass Designs with Sue Thornborough

Friday 7th February 10.30am to 16.30pm  £44.00

 Stained Glass Window patchwork looks stunning and is a fairly simple applique technique. It lends itself particularly to the sweeping curves of Art Nouveau. Mackintosh’s Glasgow rose is the inspiration for this block which can be made into a wall hanging or a cushion.  Or you could incorporate it into a quilt of similar designs.
