Fans by the Cabin
Jelly Roll bag with Lesley
Yet another great use of 2 ½” strips from your stash or that jellyroll you fell in love with. Again, if you see a colourway in the shop that you like, grab it when you can – give some thought to summer and beaches – the marine/beach range would just fit the bill brilliantly.
Wed 1st July 10am-4pm £30 beginners
Jelly Roll bag
Embroidery with Heather
Another opportunity to continue to work on an embroidery project with Heather (handwork)
Sat 25th July 1-5pm £20 anyone
Quilt-a-thon at the shop
Make quilts for charity: fabric and tuition is donated; come along and learn new techniques for FREE in the 2 hour long classes. Further class details to follow.
This year’s dates are:
Thurs 16th July/Fri 16th July/Sat 18th July
Patchwork Dates with Val:
These classes have no fixed agenda; you can come along and work on whatever project you like (play catch-up from another one, or start something new). If you have never done patchwork before, then this would be a great place to start (and check out the dates at Our Lady of Lourdes); not only can we point you in the right direction, but you get to see lots of other ideas being worked on – inspiration for next time!
Dates and times: each booked separately
Tues 30th June 10am-4pm £30
Some Ideas for this term:
Log Cabin/Trip Around the World/Irish Chain- all part of the Quilt in a Day series which are really great. For anyone starting out in patchwork they should be tackled in that order (degree of difficulty) but all three are really great for introducing you to fast piecing, and improving (or indeed starting) your rotary cutting skills and the Log Cabin really can be done in a day Virgins/beginners
Irish Chain
Diamond Quilt – this can be little (cushion size) or large (quilt size) - and is an introduction to the ‘inset seam’; something that we patchworkers try hard to avoid, but sometimes, as in this pattern, unavoidable. The shop samples were made by using Jan Krentz’s special rulers, but I can show you how to use the angle lines on your ruler to produce the same effect. With the use of the large pieces, the quilt grows really fast Advanced Beginners
Diamond Quilt
Stash Buster Quilt – inspired by Lynn Edwards idea, this was made as the back of a quilt (front still to be made!!). Allows you to use up lots of strips from your cupboard Beginners
Stash Buster Quilt
Take 5 Fat ¼’s – this is another stashbuster quilt and VERY QUICK to make. Virgins
Tulip Block – this single block is based on the Log Cabin design and uses rotary cutting skills. It does feature in one of the Jelly roll books using 30’s style fabrics (which Isa now has in the store), but we did make our own Tulip quilt a while back; so why not give this a try – using the jelly roll plus a background fabric what could be easier?! Beginners
Wobbly Border – this is SO much easier than it looks and would enhance any panel or medallion centre. A great new technique to add to your repertoire. Beginners

Saturday 12th Sept 10am-4pm £35

Creating pictures with your machine stitches with Anja Townrow
This is a repeat class for those who were unable to enjoy the workshop with her back in 2008. There is a choice of butterfly/bird and art deco cocktail glass wallhangings to choose from. You will learn so much from Anja both about your machine (she seems to know about them all!) and also about threads and needles. Your own machine will be essential for this class.
Sat 3rd October 10am-4pm £40
Handquilting with Lillian Hedley – we are very excited to be able to say that Lillian is coming to us on October 2nd to share her expertise; unfortunately, word spread and with absolutely no publicity her class is full. If you would have liked to have been involved, please let us know.
Handquilting with Paula Doyle - Paula will be teaching handquilting on Saturday September 26th at Our Lady of Lourdes on Hampton Court Way - spaces still available
Still on the subject of handquilting, Lesley is
looking into the possibility of quilting with interesting threads and large
stitches, again to be on the autumn schedule. Please register your
interest now (we have already a form - we just need to finalise the date with
Lesley)
And looking even further ahead, we have put a date in the diary for Gail Lawther to come to us in the autumn of 2010 to give a class on stained glass designs – so make a mental note to check out her work at Sandown
