As of today (June 8th), I haven't managed to send out the newsletter to my contacts. For some reasons, "computer says NO! to Mail Merge" so here it is on the web site and hopefully, very soon, in your inbox as well. Izzy
Latest news from Creative Quilting – May/June 2011
Dear Quilter
Having just come back from the quilt in Malvern, we started work straight away on preparing for Sandown (June 17th-19th)! We will of course be there in our usual spot so if you need anything specific brought for you, please let us know. We do love the Sandown show as it is so close to home (we timed it: 6 minutes door to door!!), so if you feel like visiting the shop after the show, don’t hesitate, it’s really not far at all and you can always leave husband in Husband Crèche (that would be the pubs next door and opposite).
Last newsletter, I mentioned the coach to the NEC will be running on the Saturday, there are only very few spaces left, so if you are “thinking” about it, you might want to stop thinking and book it before it’s too late (always worth going on the waiting list of course). We are also running a coach to Ally Pally (Saturday October 8th) and the booking list is open already. You can book over the phone if you wish.
Before I tell you about all the new fabrics we received last month, I just wanted to mention 2 classes that we are running soon: Summer Skirt with Emma and the Beach Bag with Hilary.
We got asked so many times if we did simple dressmaking that we thought it would be a nice idea to start with an easy and nice summer skirt. The class is on Wednesday 29th June (10am-4pm). You will get the skirt finished in that time (we have already had a test run!!). It is a super easy one to make and would also be perfect for a little girl.
The Beach Bag class with Hilary promises to be fun (as always with Hilary). Hilary can even sort out the plastic film for you in advance if you want. That class is on July 2nd (10am-4pm)
We received a rather vast amount of new goodies last month, including 5 new patterns from Kellie at Don’t Look Now (that same Kellie who brought us Meg’s Garden!!). I don’t know how she does it, but she has yet again managed to produce some gorgeous patterns in no time at all. There is an Advent Calendar, a Christmas tree (which I forgot to put on the website so here is the photo just for you), one called Memories, one called From The Heart and last but not least: Animal Alphabet – which is totally, utterly, gorgeous!!!
On the fabric front, you can tell it is already June as Christmas has started to arrive, big time!! We have got a new gorgeous Advent Calendar from Makower. There are also a whole series of Christmas fabrics with stocking, robins, stars, Christmas puddings on the shelves. We have also got the traditional Christmas labels which are so useful to make coasters, cards and all sorts of small projects. We can see all the Christmas stuff on the website, on the Latest Arrivals and on the Christmas page as well. You will also see the very pretty Christmas Candy range by Riley Blake which was our choice of fabric for this month’s Fabric Sample Club. We will be bringing all these fabrics to Sandown.
If you find the thought of Christmas in June a bit depressing, fear not, we also got lots of bright and flowery fabrics for you in stock!!
We have got a striking series of fabric in bold turquoise, orange and brown with gold design on them – the fans are particularly stunning – you can see them all on photos 28 to 34 on the web site.
If you are into flowers and spots, you are going to be spoilt for choice, as all sorts of gorgeous fabrics arrived! They are all rather bright and fresh and should get the creative juices flowing… the very nice about them as well is that most of them are at £2.35 per fat quarter (£9.40 per metre) which nowadays is rather unusual (I won’t bore you with the price of raw cotton, but don’t get me started!!).
We also got some lovely hearts and stars on 3 different background colours. They are proving very popular for boy’s quilts
Talking of boy’s quilts, we have got some gorgeous little cars on cream, red and blue backgrounds which would make very nice borders and backing
If you are looking for baby fabrics, we have got the most gorgeous pastel fabrics in blue, pink and green (just in case you don’t the flavour of the baby, green is always a good option!!). I have also cut strip rolls and Nickle packs of those (£7.50 for a strip pack of 10 strips and £3.00 for 20 squares – 5”), there are pink/green and blue/green packs.
We seem to be selling spotty fabrics like they are going out of fashion, so we had a massive restock last month and got about 40 new bolts (all at £9.40 per metre!! ) – we have huge spots, tiny spots, medium spots and everything else in between!!
That’s it for the fabrics; expect of course that since updating the website we have had more delivered (typically they arrived 1 hour too late!!), including about 20 or so new 1930’s fabrics. I have also cut strip rolls and 5” squares of those and they look rather scrumptious… Although the fabrics aren’t on the website, here is a scan of them
On the book side, we have got some little treasures in stock for you:
Make A Monster
Fresh Quilting
Home Made Vintage (my favourite!)
Quilted Bags with Style
Making Children’s Clothes
Sew Scandinavian
And finally… the most awaited book by Petra Prins from Holland – Treasures from Holland (the text is both in English and French).
The feedback I got from asking about changing the website so that you could order online was overwhelmingly positive and you will be happy (hopefully!) to know that the project is coming along nicely. I can’t give you a date just yet as I am still working on it and it is the sort of project that always throws a curved ball when you least expect it!! So hang in there, it will happen!!
Until next month, happy sewing!
Izzy
PS- Don’t forget that you can also see us on Facebook – Creative Quilting – and be kept even more up-to-date!!
