Sew It Up
A great Christmas
present!
This is a really
good book that covers a lot of sewing techniques (not just
patchwork and quilting) - there is even a section on unpicking
(aka negative sewing). The photos are all in colour, the
instructions are clear and the projects are modern and simple
enough to be tackled by a beginner. I was impressed! |
|
 |
Boutis &
Trapunto As
far as I know (but I would be happy to be proved wrong) this is
the only modern title on this subject - the projects are small
and therefore manageable, the look is fresh and modern - I
particularly love the turtle on page 54.

Fabulous
Fabric Beads
I think I am going to
have to re-order than one pretty fast - I only 1 copy and I
think Lesley might grab it - It is absolutely stunning! The
ideas and projects are gorgeous, there are a lot of clever,
unusual ideas and yet very easy to realise.

Handmade
Embroidered Bags
At the risk of
sending a bit mad, this book is a great book on free motion
quilting with very clear colour photos - it shows you how to
make cord with your machine, how to embellish and create your
own fabric. Oh, and yes, it also shows how to make nice bags!

Down on the
Farm Lesley
Brankin, former Editor at Patchwork and Quilting, has published
a second book based on farm animals done in foundation. This new
title is a sister volume to Two By Two which was a great
success. Her new book is just as nice and inspiring.

Stitching to
Dye in Quilt Art
OK, I admit, I am
biased, I learnt free machining with June so how can I not like
her new book? I learnt so much from June, I couldn't even start
to make a list, but the best thing I took away from my 10 month
course? that the best question you can ask is "What if?..."
Her workmanship is
second to none, she puts so much of herself into each quilt, you
will be in awe!
Even if you are
not into dyeing, this book is still a reference in free
machining

|
Stitch,
Cloth, Paper & Paint
This book is packed
with lots of techniques, hints and tips on how to go down the
mixed-media route. |
 |
 |
Embroidered
Flora and Fauna
Quite amazing! 3D
flowers and fruits (and more) entirely done by hand using all
sorts of techniques - the projects are very pleasantly grouped
by colour. Very clear photos and real scale patterns.

|
Stitched
Textile Collage
25 projects that use
all sorts of sewing techniques - a great source of inspiration
as well as technical information - likely to take you out of
your "comfort zone"

Simply
Enchanting Crafts
A delightful book! It
has the sweetest of little projects - they all look as if made
by the fairies that live at the bottom of the my garden!
