Val has found a project which has caught her eye…it's just such fun!

Aren't these rugs just fabulous - and useful too! They are made from 2.5" strips and wadding. Use a strip roll (aka a jelly roll) and a roll of precut wadding and away you go! Or it can be a fun way of using up scraps and wadding offcuts.  The rug is constructed with straight stitches and then zigzag - so achievable for all on any machine.

In this video here from Justhands-on TV, Valerie guides you through some of the things to think about when making this rug – which is actually very straightforward BUT you do need the purple needles for your machine to avoid it skipping stitches.

We have a jelly roll rug kit in our shop that includes the wadding, pattern and purple tipped needles needed to make a rug of your own - just add a jelly roll or two!

Throughout January we have a special offer on our strip rolls to tempt you to try making your own Jelly Roll Rug... our POT LUCK STRIP ROLLS!  For £15 you will receive two 2.5" strip rolls (normally £17) either the same or different (you choose), but the rolls will be a mystery until you receive your package - a little surprise - and who doesn't like fabric surprises!?

Here are some examples which have been made by the Creative Quilting team, our customers and students.

Maggie made a lovely blue, beige and cream rug with Japanese inspired fabric strips - can you spot the Indigo by Makower fabrics?
Jane used a Moda Jelly Roll in rich, deep colours giving an almost "antique" look to the rug which has been carefully sewn with matching thread.
With pops of lime green and bright blue, our Creative Quilting shop sample is a scrappy little number, sure to brighten the day!
